20160916 – CPSC Recall of GE Profile Top-Loading Clothes Washers (Recall Release 16-265)

In cooperation with the CPSC and Health Canada, GE Appliances is recalling 222,000 GE Profile top-loading clothes washers. (450 were sold in Canada) The recall indicates that an electrical component in the washers can overheat, posing a fire hazard. Sold from June 2003 through October 2011, GE Appliances has received 71 reports of internal washer components burning or catching fire, including three reports of fires resulting in about $129,000 in property damage. No injuries were reported. The top-loading clothes washers were eligible to bear the cULus Mark.
